Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver
Presario F700 running Vista SP2; the audio icon on my task bar suddenly says NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED. When I try a download of Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 from HP, which contains the user interface, it fails due to NO AUDIO DEVICE. After about 10 restarts, the audio reappeared and I had normal sound, for a while, and then it reverted back to NO AUDIO DEVICE. I again downloaded the SmartAudio 221 driver from the HP site and was told that the driver was already installed. I reinstalled the new driver and at the end, got the message UNABLE TO INSTALL NO AUDIO DEVICE.

Help, please.

More about audio output device installed
  1. uninstall it in the device manager , then reboot!
  2. then install driver!
  3. Probably another symptom of your failing hard drive.

In Device Manager, I can select HD Conexant Audio but when I click Uninstall, nothing happens.

Correction: When I use Device Manager, no audio device shows up. However, in Control Panel\ Programs\Programs and Features, HD Conexant Audio is shown, but I cannot uninstall it.
