What is X-Finity? First off, I'd recommend choosing a PSU from this list: http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiered+PSU+Listings?t=anon (preferably tier 1 or 2)

Now, I think people need a little more information

Did you increase the Vcore voltage at all? What is your RAM clocked at? What do you mean by "crashing"? (Does it not boot up, crash after Windows loads, etc) The crash could be due to inconsistent power being fed to the CPU, but I my self am still new to OC'ing, so I'll let you answer those questions and have the experts help you. :p

thank you cfvh600 for the suggestion, but according to AMD's Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition review,
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/22/budget_overclocker/
I should not need to touch the FSB, and that is what A newbie’s guide to Overclocking an Athlon XP CPU suggesting me to do.

Splendid
I'm not familiar with that board. What I'd do is start over, clear cmos, set up bios. The minimum change would be the cpu multiplier x13 to like x15 ( x 200 = 3ghz). If that doesn't work, you'll need to read a guide.

My 5000+ is running at 2.8GHz, 200X14, @ 25C. I didn't touch the voltage. This is the speed it defaulted to when I installed it last night. Quite surprising, but I'm not complaining. I haven't tried OCing it yet. But temperature-wise, it looks like I have a lot of room to play.

This is just a theory. But it sounds like your bios not be up to date. Bios still thinks it's a locked multi maybe. Try to re-flash it with the latest revision.

And you are correct about raising the multiplyer. By doing this you are only OCing the CPU. This is the whole reason behind the Black Edtion. It can be fine tuned later by adjusting the HTT frequency.
