Bluetooth headset non-connectivity issue

I understand many have had this problem, but here goes. I have a Dell Inspiron with Vista and on-board bluetooth capability. I would like to use a standard monaural bluetooth headset to make calls using MagicJack. Right now, I use a corded set which plugs in to the laptop. Do I have to get a dongle and pair it with my headset? Is there a driver program that takes the place of the dongle, or do I in fact need both in order to make this work?
