I'm trying to re-format my laptop. I put the windows XP cd in then rebooted it. When it starts up, the screen just goes black withn a blinking underscore at the top of the screen. If I eject the cd, the laptop resumes and starts windows normally. Can anyone help? I really need to reformat my laptop. Thanks.

Assuming the CD you are using is the bootable XP CD, you have to enter the BIOS to set "Boot First from CD," save and exit BIOS. The computer will restart andafter POST, will prompt you to "press any key to boot from CD," press any key. As XP installs it will re-boot at least once - do NOT press any key to boot from the CD during the installation re-boots.
