Hi, i'm not sure if i'm right on this one but please help.

I have an old Intel 845G motherboard that currently has an Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz CPU in it. I have another Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz CPU that works fine on another motherboard but doesn't work on the 845G even though it's the same socket. Could someone tell me why it doesn't work? Thanks alot.

Couple of thouthts:
Need BIOS upgrade to support faster processor.
Motherboard not able to support faster chip. What make/model is the motherboard?

Yep. It seems likely that your motherboard won't support that chip. The problem is that that chipset only supports 400/533 FSB. If that chip is indeed 3.0ghz, it requires 800mzh FSB. If you misstated yourself and the chip is a 3.06ghz processor, the motherboard likely needs a BIOS flash.

Best of Luck
