hooked up new dell inspiron desktop. internet connection working fine until windows takes over and starts downloading updates. message on screen is: Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update 28 of 42. I could not take it any longer after 2 hours of this frozen screen and tried turning off power completely. nothing will work, windows does not restart, it resumes right where it left off, on this frozen screen. Hows about some advice?

Hi. Start in safe mode (F8 key at startup.) Go to programs and features, and uninstall the update. You could also do a system restore to before the updates were downloaded. Then turn off automatic updates and select Notify me but let me choose which to download and install, and install them a couple at a time
