that is indeed a great sound card, if you are running Vista dont get it that sound card. I have 5.1 set up and my mic goes crazy and it randomly goes back to 2.0 stereo setup. If you are on xp, i doubt the 9800s sound card will be great just because it will probably have an hdmi out so they figure why niot add sound.

The audio processing is only going through the hdmi port. It's designed with movie playing in mind, not games.

if you want EAX and stuff, get a sound card.

Does it justify the 80$ more I'm paying for a separate soundcard?...I'm going to listen to music/mp3s, play games, (such as bioshock/crysis), record a little piano quartet music, and watch the odd movie or so....I think 80$ is a good price for this card...

I was thinking dual booting vista/XP...

Yes...It does help. Offers you better sound and lowers the stress on the CPU if you are using onboard. It will increase your framerate as well by a few frames. Always a good idea to have a sound card if you are going to do heavy gaming, video, and music.

yeah, a sound card is better and is perfect for music, games etc. so go ahead and buy it. by the way the price is good, cause i paid $100 for mine.

You forgot to mention the $50.00 rebate by mail you have to wait probably 3months for.
130.00 up front
If your running XP your ok. The software installation disk you get is XP. The Vista CD's are unavaiable at the moment from Creative and they have a shipping charge if you want one.

Thanks dude! I was looking to buy a sound card, and I was just about to get it from newegg but that mail in rebate is just too good to let go by.

Now that I got the sound card, can anyone recommend a good speaker set to get the max out of the card. I would prefer a 2.1 set and it would be nice if anyone can list a few.

Does anyone have them? if so, will they help me to tell the difference between on-board audio and me new X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro?
Many thanks.

No problem, Cherie.

The Z-2300s I heard were great Speaks, with huge bassline....that could be a good OR bad thing...

I own the Z-4s, and they are clear and powerful, no breaking at high Volumes, but bass is slightly weak - the Z2300s
I believe are the next stepup.
