Quake 1 and 2 should run fine and Doom 2 should work great.

Have you looked at the Tom's charts?

http://www23.tomshardware.com/grap [...] &chart=279

The 640 would be ok at that res. If you are willing to get SLI 640's why not just get a GTX, see how you like that and still be able to SLI it down the road.

It'll work at that res. I've used 8800's with 320mb to good effect at 1900x1200.

thanx u guys...sorry i didnt know about that chart...that chart is sick...but why is the 8800 gts 320mb sometimes better than the 8800 gts 640mb??

its never by much, and as long as the extra memory isn't used (low textures, res aa etc) then apparantly the 320 has slightly better memory

depends, some people can't bear to play below 60 fps, but general wisdom states that 30 is borderline too slow, and that you can lower that for rts's (20 fps on supcom and I barely notice) but for fps 40 is great

I'd also like to remind you those are on max AA/AF settings, so your framerates will improve vastly if you just bump those levels down a little bit.

You will be fine with a 8800GTS 640Mb. I have a 24'' and a GTS and Bioshock really shines in my system in DX10.

Haha. I have the card configured to overclock when I open 3d apps. If not, runs @ stock speed. My temps are 49-51 idle (51 in hot days), and mid 60s in HEAVY games like Bioshock. Fully stable. I can play for hours without any problems. I forgot what a BSOD is, really.

The E6600 idles @ 45, loads @ 52-53 in heavy apps (FSX). In Orthos could reach 55-56 max.

Oh i forgot. Everything is on air. The 8800 has the default fan (always @ 100%), and I have a PCI blower under it.

The good temps are also because of the Antec 900. The airflow is awesome.

Its simple, use Rivatuner and configure the launcher. You can create a "custom config" for any of your apps.

I use a x2 4000+ overclocked to a 4800+, a 8800GTS 320mb 4mb of ram, and oblivion rides my system running 1024 by 768 max settings down to 30-40fps outside. Some parts of the outside can jump up to 50-70fps all according to the area. My cpu does hurt it a bit.
Oblivion is a pretty big hog, the tom's cards is a little off, after all it's with the fastest cpu on the market, (the x6800). And noone really knows where outside the benchmark was taken at.
