Appreciate any advice on the following hardware problem.
I recently (a few days ago) purchased a new system (specs below), and am now having trouble booting it up. When I turn the power on, everything seems to get power (fans start spinning) and then after a few second it loses power again and all fans etc power back down. After being off for 3-5 seconds it powers back up again (on its own) and continues to repeat this process. Sometimes during the period when it powers back up, it will 'stay on' for longer, but no display ever appears.
Further complicating matters, is if I'm persistent enough, eventually it will boot up normally, and once it's running, there's no problems. I can restart etc without any issues (I'm typing this on it now). It's only if I power down and try to turn it on again.
Now, I have looked for short-circuits on the M/B, and everything looks ok. I've flashed the bios up to F7. Tried running on only one (tried either one) stick of RAM, but nothing seems to change the behaviour.
I've spoken to the place I purchased it from and they think it's a "known problem" with Gigabyte motherboards, that this "occasionally happens" to their boards and that it's a simple case of swapping it over. I'm located some distance away from the retailer so wont get there until this weekend. But would appreciate any thoughts you may have, as I'm quite confused and want to identify the problem before I get the M/B swapped over.
