I am overclocking my E6420 (on my ASUS P5B Deluxe board) and would be interested to know what people have acheived with overclocking this CPU (or the E6400, which I assume would reach similar results).

I've got to 3.2GHz without trouble, but would be interested to know how far others have got to know how far to try to push it.

Many thanks!

3.2 is a very good OC for E6420
Well as u know "How much the CPU can OC" dpends on the components, voltages .......

You push it until it takes more voltage than you feel comfortable running through it.

Thanks; I know what you mean about pushing more and more volts through it until you get too worried to push any more (or the memory won't take it, or it gets too hot).

I was just interested to know how my overclock compared to what others have achieved with the CPU. It didn't seem too difficult to me so far; stock cooler, 1.3v in BIOS (something less in reality), 400 x 8 multiplier, low temperatures. I'm sure with a bit more effort and dabbling with memory settings as I start to overclock that, I could acheive more.

I was interested to know what to aim for. Is 3.2GHz really good and nobody's got it higher, or am I at the start of my journey and should acheive 4GHz if I persevere?

Many thanks!

3.2 is pretty good.

It's going to take a TON more voltage once you start hitting 3.3-3.5 GHz.

I had a E6400 before and reached 425fsb @ 3.4Ghz and stopped there. Was good enough for me

3.2 Ghz is great for E6400

INTEL C2D E6420 2.13 GHz 4MB L2 CACHE \ 1066 MHz FSB
KINGSTON 3GB \ 333 MHz
200 WATT PSU

and plz replay cuz i really want to OC

desertstorm1:
Intel motherboards typically are not good overclockers. Many of the necessary BIOS options are missing.

Tnx jsc :-)

tell me about a good M.B which it's good for overclocking and have a good features like the DG965RY. And support SLI TECHNOLOGY

I don't know why everyone is saying 3.2Ghz is a good place to stop. If you have a multi of x9 then you should be using it. I'm at 2.8Ghz on my E4300 and can hit 3.4Ghz easy but still waiting on my new heat sink from newegg. BTW the 3.4Ghz I have hit and was stable at besides 70c temps is on a cheap 65.00USD gigabyte board.

Just a little tip last night I ran my E4300 at 3.15Ghz and it wouldn't hold temps under Intel's TAT program's cpu stress test; however, I reset realtemp's log and tried playing a very cpu intensive game ( Empire: total war, and supreme commander) on all max settings. I loaded a seige battle with lots going on during the whole battle. After it was over I quit the game and checked Realtemp's log and my cpu's highest temp was 63c.

IT'S ALL GOING TO FINALLY CRASH YOUR CPU AND DECREASE OR REDUCE YOUR CPU LIFE TIME I THINK
