More Information

Here's a question for those of you out there with RAID experience. I've only been using RAID 0 for the past few months. It's worked fine, but I really don't see much performance gain which is why any issues I have will most likely end with me scrapping RAID on my system. I'd been using two WD250GB SATAII drives on my ASUS A8N-SLI, but just upgrade to a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4. I used the Gigabyte RAID controller and had no problem installing Vista, got everything setup and working great. Time to OC my new Q6600. With this motherboard every time I change an OC setting in the BIOS the system completely shuts off then turns back on. If there's an issue during POST it will shut back off and reset the OC settings (but not the rest of the BIOS) - this is a very nice feature that I like. However the first time this happened my RAID failed. I'm not sure if the two are related or if it may indicate another problem. Also now that I think about it I also installed the SATA/RAID drivers off the motherboard CD despite their already being installed and this may have happened on the first reboot. Maybe I just answered my own question but is this something I should worry about? I just don’t want to spend all the time setting up an tweaking my system just to have a my RAID to fail and have to start all over again. Also should I use the Gigabyte RAID controller or Intel Controller?
