Im planning on building a new rig. After some research this is what ive come up with:

-Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 cooled by a Zalman CNPS9500
-Asus P5B Deluxe
-ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512mb GDDR3
-G.Skill 2GB PC2 6400
-Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 320GB + ill have an external
-In an Antec P182 case

Planning to overclock it, gonna be used for gaming and other general use. Any suggestions on improvements that i could make? (obviously bearing in mind price as im not made of money :)  )

Get a cheaper case and get an hd2900 or an 8800gts.

P5B deluxe is a good board but its 965 , i suggest u getting a P35 board like ASUS P5K , ASUS P5K-E ,

I would upgrade the CPU to an E6750 also, only $30 more than what you have listed.

k ive done some more research today, looking at some p35 boards and ive found the Asus Blitz Formula P35 Socket 775. The board looks pretty damn good and has amazing reviews from all the sites ive read. 99% sure im going with this beast.

Also i was planning to change the E6320 to the E6600. yamagiru said to swap the CPU to the E6750. i was looking at prices and noticed the e6750 is actually cheaper than the E6600, whats up with that?

and 1 last thing. i was looking at some ram today and found some Cellshock PC2 6400 2GB (guessing they are a new and upcoming make). The G.Skill ram better than the Cellshock shizzle?
P.S i also saw a fair few good reviews about the Super Talent T800UX2GC4 .... Whats the opinion on these 3 ram?? (and anyone know where i can buy some of that super talent stuff coz i need to check prices)

No Clue why the E6750 is cheaper.
Just one heck of a deal is all I can say.

For the ram question, the G-Skill PC2-6400 HZ has the same chips as the Cellshock, otherwise the Cellshock will be better.

+ 1 more vote for the E6750, and I also have no idea why it's cheaper.

Because Intel wants to push the 1333 fsb chipsets and discourages people from buying the old 1066 fsb stuff. TBH I think it's a good idea...

Edit: Before somebody blows up my argument by mentioning Q6600 - the Q6600 is an exception because Intel wants to push quads too. :)

ahh ok, cheers aevm. seem like a pretty smart move to me aswell, im certainly not complaining.

I agree with aevm..If you are planning to OC just nab yourself a quad if it is possible. Considering the future will be multithreaded you may as well save yourself the trouble. Plus crysis and some other titles are multithreaded as well. So you'll see a benefit in getting a quad. It's up to you though...But since you're oc'ing I see it as the best choice...

But if not..the 6750 should work perfectly for you.

i would like to have a quad, but don't really want to be spending anymore cash. The system atm is coming to about £600-650 which is plenty!

plus im not really gonna be going mad with the overclocking. so E6750 looks good to me.

Goog choices on your build. You could easy get 3-3.2GHz with the stock HSF with good case airflow

k my final system (i think):

-Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 cooled by a Zalman CNPS9500
-Asus Blitz Formula P35 Socket 775
-His X1950 Pro 256mb IceQ3
-Super Talent 2GB PC2-6400 T800UX2GC4 (x2)
-Corsair HX 620W PSU
-Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 320GB + ill have an external
-In an Antec P182 case

I personally would get a cheaper case and mobo, so I could get the 8800gts, but that is just me. I'm not the one spending the hard earned $ for the rig and you are the one that makes the decisions.

well the Asus Blitz is about £165, but from a fair few reviews ive read it seems to be the best p35 mobo
and the P182 case i have found for £78 which seems pretty reasonable to me for a top quality case with great airflow.
but if anyone knows of any better cases for cheaper then plzz say

also would i be able to use a 520W psu instead of the 620W i was planning on. would save me a few ££'s if i could.
September 5, 2007 12:04:42 PM

You know that even the 450w Corsair PSU would handle even the 8800gtx. Not that I'm suggesting that, but it's pretty well know that it can handle the card. It's well worth the extra $20 USD for the 520w Corsair for what you have in mind :)

Being the cheapskate that I am, I just got the cheapest case I could find in Maplins. A Q6600 idling @ 28c in a £24.99 case works for me.

you are wasting you money with tha board man, you could get a p5k deluxe with that sorter money comes with wifi. or the gigabyte p35 ds3r which will OC like mad. i cant see why you dont want to save money? and get the p180 its cheaper so you can get a 8800 gts, you will see a much larger improvement. that in the motherboard or case you know.
