Hey, I'm just curious to see what everyone's FPS is on some popular games today such as WoW, Guild Wars, Counter-Strike and some of the newest ones such as Bioshock and Crysis, and what card you use. I'm particularly interested in those with older video cards. I'm building a new computer soon and looking to get a cheap card under $50. I've found this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] u=S15-1000

Any thoughts?

I currently play Guild Wars with a 15 fps... :pt1cable: so i anything would be better. I also plan on getting E6550 and 2gb of ram

depends, whats ur budget?
Oh, and I notice that 7300 has 512 mb of ram, and 256 mb of that I can almost guarentee will not achieve ANYTHING and there is probably a cheaper 7300 with 256

You mean most games won't need 512? or it's a crappy card from an unknown company?

I'd like to spend $50-60 at most. and i don't see any cards for under $25 heh

what's the difference between E4xxx and E6xxx?

what happens is companies market cards with 512 mb of memory because it sounds like its going to be powerful, and I agree in some cards the extra memory is useful (x1950s for example) HOWEVER in the vast majority of cases such as this it is useless because they put the memory on a card that just won't ever use it

e4xx is slower and cheaper, but for games the video card is far and away the most important component

oook, thanks

i could downgrade to a 4xxx, which would bring up my video card budget to ~$100. what would be the best then?

You can get a 7600GT for under $100. It will play Guild Wars at 50+ fps at 1440x900 on high settings. I just installed one in my wife's computer for that very purpose. That card also doesn't need an extra power connector. Whatever you choose, make sure your PSU is up to it.

ON new quakre wars demo enemy territory I can get max FPS at 4x AA and all other settings at max.

Although for some reason when a lot happens it seems to cap itself to 30fps, its always at that point, never goes baove or below until I die. Who knows why that is lol..

I doubt you'll find a card that'll play bioshock for under $50, might pull of counter strike source with low seetings. I very much recommend to spend about $100 on a video card, a card that can't pull off at least 60fps is a waste of your money in my opinion. Also check out the video card comparison stickied in this forum, it's very informative on common cards and the're price ranges.

x1900gt at newegg right now for 100, its basically a x1950pro with slower mem clocks and a little bit hotter core.

i think i'll just spend more on a video card, so 7950GT or 8600GTS?

7950gt beats an 8500gts. Id go with the 7950.

If you really want to play Bioshock or Crysis you may want to consider moving up to something like this:

I know it's $200 but IMO that seems like the best price/performance out there now.
