So I'm like 1 step away from purchasing all the new parts for my rig but I want to go from 2Gs of RAM to 4. The problem is that all the RAM rebate deals only allow you to get the rebate on one of the 2x1G pairs. Soooo.... I was wondering if I could order two sets of different memory and have them run properly together. I would understand if thats a bad idea and should be avoided, but I was thinking that if they have the same specifications there shouldn't be a reason they couldn't work.

RAM in question - 2x1G of each

Patriot Extreme

Both of their specs are:
Timing 4-4-4-12
EPP Ready
Voltage ~2.2V

I'll be installing the RAM on a Gigabtye DS3L Mobo

Thank you all in advance for any ideas/suggestions/thoughts that you might have. Your knowledge is always very much appreciated.

I'd ask a friend or colleague to buy the second pair of sticks...

So you think that I shouldn't mess with trying to mix and match RAM?

those will work just fine together. as long as they are the same speed voltage and timings, you're perfectly fine. you could run them dual channel also, jsut keep the pats and geils together.

How about getting 2x2GB? There's got to be a decent deal on some of those somewhere. It would allow you to go up to 8 GB later if you need it.
