There is no choice to boot from SATA in the BIOS, there is a choice for CDROM, but the motherboard seems to be interpreting it differently, as it always boots from the HD no matter how I have the boot sequence set.........
Any ideas?

Some boards have specific plugs for HDD only make sure you didnt plug into one of those.

Make sure your Sata is set to run in IDE mode. Disable anything raid.

Thanks, Roadrunner!
You got me thinking and I realized that only the SATA 0/1 connector on the GA-P35-DS3L is IDE enabled. I swapped one of the DVD SATA cables to that connector and now I can boot from that DVD burner.
Nice work!
