I just loaded Vista 64 on my new pc, but the OS can't seem to find the drivers for my CD and DVD drive.
The drives do work and are correctly set on slave, or master.
Any clue what may be going on?

Not sure what the problem is if the drives work. Do you mean you have yellow or red warnings in Hardware Manager or they don't show up on in My Computer?
I have the typical yellow exclamation mark.
I mean they work, as in they work with this exact setup in Vista 32 and XP.
Have you checked the mfg website for updated drivers or firmware? Have you tried manually install the drivers from Device Manager? Both VIsta 32 and 64 are know to have driver issues, which is sometimes being addressed by the hardware mfg
I downloaded and installed all of the drivers from Intel's site. The thing I don't understand is why the drives are showing up under "cd/dvd drives" classification in Device Manager instead of underneath an IDE controller. I'm assuming that it is a controller issue, and not an actual cd/dvd drive issue.

Have you checked you BIOS settings? When it comes to drivers Vista seems to be a mess, especially 64. Check this out, Miocrosoft came out with an update to address some driver issues
