I just installed a new ASUS MB (M2A-VM HDMI). I am have an AMD X2 6000+ CPU and an 8800 GT GPU. I'm running a 600 W Ultra-xFinity PSU and a CoolerMaster CPU Fan.
When I boot into Vista 64, "something" is making this weird, very high pitched (as in dog whistle high) "morse-code" sort of sound, like:
beeee-beeee-ba-beeeep-beeeep
over and over again. It's not loud like when you forget to plug your video card in. It is soft but VERY annoying.
It is VERY hard to tell where it is coming from. It only does it when I'm in Windows. It definitely is NOT coming from the 8800 GT as I turned that off and the sound persisted. It is either coming from the CPU Cooler, or the PSU.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be. It is drivin me nuts!
Sounds kinda like a problem i had years ago. Possible Hard drive on the way out? Do u have a spare to try it out? Bearings in the cooler, but wouldn't explain only in windowz... I would go Gfx-HDD. My x1950pro has a habit of whistling under stress. Once had HDD do the same before losing everything on it
