  1. Ok we have had this problem on most of our pc's and it has been a pain to work out what the problem actually is. BUT I do have a very good idea now and a fix. Firstly it seems that when we rolled out Windows 7 our build included Java 21 which came from Sun and any updates come from Oracle. This leaves two versions in the uninstall screen representing the one install. So as soon as you follow the recommendation to remove older versions it actually removes Java but leaves the registry entries behind so you then have a really annoyed machine and the registry entries are everywhere.

Good news they are findable and clearable.

So here they are and there are few of them as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\4EA42A62D9304AC4784BF238120612FF (The number may change depending on how far the Updates went before you got the problem. You are looking for Java installer for the one stuck in 'Programs and Features'

    Then move on to

Look for all that have Java information and remove them I have had as few as 2 and as many as 5.

Once you have done that reinstall Java

A real pain I know but it works every time
  2. Hello djnlondon,

I'm having the same problem. I tried to delete the registry entries you pointed out, but I can't find the first one (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9}). I assume that I downloaded an update or something that makes my registry entry different. Where can I find the information that I need to figure out what entry I am looking for? Also, you said to look for all Java information. What information are you talking about?

The other two you pointed out deleted 1 of 2 Java programs I have. I can't remember what the other one was and since it is deleted (thankfully), I cant look it up. Although, the one still remaining is the Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 26.
  3. why are you playing with Windows registry... your system may suffer from serious data loss if you did anything wrong./.. i recommend you to download and install registry repairing tool... it get the job done registry cleaner:
  4. This worked for me. It's a batch file the removes all the references to Java. Just run this file if you're having problems installing or uninstalling Java. Then try reinstalling Java. Took me 5 seconds to run.
