i play counter strike source and i wanted to know what is a better processor.

the 3400+ is a single core. i was playing source on it and i was getting 65+ fps constant in de_dust2 with 30 ppl with my geforce 5200 graphics card....

i was wondering if the Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.2ghz will get me the same fps. i am not changing anything except for the processor... my pent 4 will be here this weekend , so i wanted to know what is better my moms amd athlon 3400+ or the pent 4 3.2ghz ... if the pent will make me loose fps .. can u tell me how many i would be loosing .. like a lot or just like 5 to 10 fps ?

both machines have 768 mb of ram and geforce 5200 graphics card.

btw my bro is getting me the HP comp from his work... it was only 50 bucks and it comes with a 19 inch lcd... many good benefits of working for a good company

ahh man :(

i hope i don't loose any fps in css with the INTEL :(

i am at the edge when i put settings to high in css and thats how i like it and on intel my fps might drop to 50 instead of 60 on the amd.

As long as i get 60 fps or above i am fine...

the pent 4 + 19 inch lcd are coming from a company my bro works for , only 50 bucks :)

Yea, I can guarantee that your lying about the 60fps in source with settings set to high. Its literally impossible for that setup.

Anyways, the 3400+ would be better.

oh i am lying?

i will post up screens k .

anyways to make it clear my settings are model : high , texture : high , shader : high , shadow : high the rest is at stock and my res is @ 800*600 and i am on direct x level 8.

i get over 60 fps in dust 2 in css with 10 to 14 ppl and i get over 100 in fy iceworld

Athalon vote here. P4's run hot and aren't quite as nice as the AMD's 64. I'm betting you won't get 60fps on that 19" your getting (if you use the native resolution of 1280x1024 or something around there).
Get a better GPU, if at all possible for that 19" screen your getting.

there is your proof. i think u guys misunderstood me when i said high settings lol.. i am a noob. when i said high settings i meant high tab in the settings for mode , texture , shadow , shader not AA or w/e to 16 x and 4 x lol or hdr on ....

also , please don't call me a lier since i don't lie. I am a honest person.

i guess ill take my moms amd , not like she plays games. She types and etc so Intel is the way to go for her

well.... 800X600 might be why. I don't really know anyone who plays a game at those settings. The really don't even test gaming performance at those settings anymore.

crashboss,

some action scenes would probably be the best test as to what the card can do. What you posted is pretty easy for cards to produce. It's when they are having to draw shadows and such things (fighting and more moving objects to draw) that they really start to slow down.

during fights i don't see a drop. i only see a drop when i take the auto shotgun or the M3 and go close to the wall and shoot it and when the dust comes off the wall i see like 10 fps drop

the Amd is not bad specially with a 5200 and the price of 150 dollars. lol $50 more than the usual $100 , soon i will post up fight scene.

No, it is DX9. Not the same DX9 as a 6xxx series card, but still a DX9 card none the less. The only problem is that the DX9 performance is so atrocious that many games will default a 5xxx series card to DX8.1 (even games built for DX9 SM2.0). But, gaming performance aside, the DX9 capabilities of the 5200 card does allow it to be compatible with Vista Aero Glass interface.

If you want the brutal honest truth, either the Intel or the AMD CPU will perform the same in CS:S, because even at 800x600 resolution, the performance bottle neck is the FX 5200 graphics card, not the CPUs.

I think he said that he would be getting some 19" lcd monitors, in which case he would be better off running at the native resolution with a different cpu and gpu.
