I'm building a machine for my dad from cannabilized parts of my old machines and some things from newegg. I new to OC'ing and have only done it on my C2Q Q6700 and was wondering how far I can push a e6750 at stock voltages with the stock HSF (He doesn't want me to go nuts, just looking for 2.9-3.2ghz). I read the C2D & C2Q guide, which is a great help, but just wanted some insight from you guys and if anyone has this chip on this board. Thanks.

Here are the specs.

Antec P180 Black
Intel e6750
4x1gb Samsung DDR2-800 5-5-5-18
Sapphire 1950xt
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610
74gb WD Raptor for OS
250gb WD Caviar for Storage
Windows XP Pro 32

Two other things:

1) Also, this should be a decent build for a mid-range gamer right. He like sims and some FPS games.
2) What is the multiplier range on this chip? I read somewhere it was 8x, but wanted to just confirm that.

Thanks in advanced. :D

If your Dad is into Flight Simulator, then you'll need to squeeze out every bit of overclock you can get, since Flight Simulator is more heavily CPU bound than any other "game". The good news is that it doesn't take much graphics horsepower to run it, however, it performs better with nVidia cards. Check out Tom's VGS Charts for Flight Simulator Benchmarks: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=778&model2=724&chart=291

Also, check out the Core 2 Quad and Duo Temperature Guide to see how far you can push your overclock and still remain within safe temperatures: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/221745-29-core-quad-temperature-guide

From the Guide:

Section 6: Scale

Scale 1: Duo

E6x50: Tcase Max 72c, G0 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Default 1.350, TDP 65w, Delta 10c

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--70--/--80--80-- Hot
--65--/--75--75-- Warm
--60--/--70--70-- Safe
--25--/--35--35-- Cool
