Hitachi Ultrastar A7K1000 and 32MB cache Tags: Hard Drives Hitachi Ultrastar Western Digital Storage Last response: February 10, 2008 9:26 PM in Storage Share bhendin February 6, 2008 7:23:35 PM Hello all! I am looking for an enterprise class SATA drive and have narrowed the options down to: Hitachi Ultrastar A7K1000 (750GB) and the WD Caviar RE2 (750GB) The Hitachi is about $50-70 more expensive and only has a 3 year warranty as opposed to the WD 5 year. However the Hitachi has a 32MB cache instead of a 16MB, it also has some proprietary technology called "smooth stream". My question is does anyone have experience, or references to any comparisons between these two drives? I would like to know if the Hitachi is worth the extra money. thanks!
