hi, i'm new to this forum, came here looking for some answers

i have a DFI km400-mlv rev.B mainboard, i used to have an AMD athlon 1800+ in it, i'm trying to upgrade to a AMD barton 2800+ , but on POST it reads as 600MHZ unknown processor, i've tried flashing the bios to the newest version and looked at the manual for the board to see if i needed to change any jumpers or anything, but cannot find anything. DFI's website claims the board supports this CPU. I'm at the end of my rope here! any insight on this problem is greatly appreciated.

also, the rest of my system specs: 400w psu, 1 gig pc3200 ram, geforce 6200 video card

could anything possibly be causing a conflict?

You must have a mobile cpu, with unlocked multiplier. Try setting the multiplier at 10, and the cpu fsb at 200. You can also try changing the cpu voltage if you want to try overclocking. But you'll need a good heatsink. Bartons run hot when overclocked.

i don't see any option in my bios for that.......... anywhere else i could change it?

also, yes, it is a mobile CPU

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. The DFI km400-mlv does not allow you to overclock. Without any overclocking features you cannot change the FSB or the clock-multiplier. In other words, that Athlon XP-M 2800+ is stuck at 600MHz.

Basically that means you need to find a Socket A m-ATX motherboard (assuming you have a m-ATX case) that will allow you to overclock. That's not an easy feat anymore.

If you can, then get a refund on the XP-M.

ok, i've re-flashed my bios back to an earlier date and now it correctly identifies the CPU, just not the FSB, it seems to be stuck @100mhz

i've just noticed that the date on the bios that DFI says is compatible is from 12/25/2003

i will try to find a bios from that date and see if maybe it will correctly identify it, but i won't get my hopes too high
