Hi,

I'm having problems installing an IDE DVD drive. I have the ribbon and power connector connected, but it's not being recognized by the BIOS and if I press the eject button, nothing happens. My guess is it's a jumper issue. I don't really have any experience with jumpers. All of the other devices in my PC are SATA and don't have any, so I'm not sure what position it should be in. Also, I don't have a manual for it, so there's not really any documentation to look at. Any ideas on what position the jumper should be in, and if this is even the problem?

I'm assuming that, because it's the only ATA device in my PC, that it should be set as the master? But what position is that?

Thank you.

master is the end of the cable. set jumper to same. if the tray doesn't open its probably power related. that should open without being recognized by the computer. make sure the power is fully seated and double check that the drive works with another pc if you can.

Okay, I know the drive works with another PC. Perhaps I should try using a brand new IDE ribbon instead of the old one.

Maybe, but I still think power. If memory serves, the drive will open without even being connected to a ribbon cable. The button is powered by 5v from the PSU independent of the rest of the computer. That's why old CD drives make cheap car CD players. You can hook the speakers up to the audio out jack on the front and power the drive with the cars battery. No cables needed.

Hmm...then why would the power be not working? I will try messing around with it later, maybe try using a different power connector.
