im planning on building a new rig and was thinking about going with the following core components

ASUS Striker Extreme
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 1333MHZ FSB
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX
RAM - 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2

I heard of issues with this particular motherboard and certain types of ram. Some have had issues when using 4GB corsair dominator, but had none with 2GB. Has anyone else had similar issues? I definitely want to go for 4GB, so what would be a safe option? Would the OCZ 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) work well with this board?

Also, do you think I should just get a motherboard that supports DDR3 instead of going for DDR2?

Check the Qualified Vendor List on ASUS's website for the striker extreme. I have the ssame mobo and it rejected a few sticks of quality ram until I used one from the list (Corsair Twin2x MX2 6400C4 2048 kit...two of them for a total of 4GB of ram), and even then it was a bit screwy until I adjusted the voltage myself to the recommended 2.1.

Check the website!

DDR3, not yet. I am very familiar with the extreme. Enjoy it, what a challenge. It's like bull riding, but instead of a 3 second ride, it will take you three days to tame it !!!
