This is a really Nooby question. . but i just want to make sure that My CPU isn't playing up on me.

I have an E6420, 2.13Ghz.
but in CPU-Z, it says my Corespeed is 120X.XMhz (where X.X vary's)
Is this normal?

also in System properties, it says:
Intel.... C2D E6420 @ 2.13GHZ
1.61GHz, 2GB Ram
Physical Adress Extension"

Just wanna make sure this is normal is all.
Thanks in advanced

If you have speed step enabled in your bios I think the core speed should be 1600.x Mhz with a multiplier of 6 when your processor isn't working hard. The multiplier should move up to 8 for a speed of 2.1Ghz when you are doing something processor intensive.

If you have speed step off your multiplier should be at 8 and the core speed should stay at 2.1Ghz.

From what your system properties say I think everything is normal. My 6420 runs at 1.6GHz when its idle.

Ahh. Thanks for your reply.

So is it better if i leave speedstep off or on?
Because i know that i would be generating a lot more heat by leaving it off .. would i notice any difference in performance?

Hmm.

Another thing, its starting to go weird now for some reason.
Im runnign the stresstest (Prime95) and the core speed only goes up to 1.8Ghz in CPU-Z
This is after i 'overclocked' it via Easytune5.

Bus Speed is 226.2MHz
and
Rated FSB is 904.9MHz

I'm hitting temperatures of around 47 when doing stress test atm.
What's wrong
