Hello and thanks for reading.

I am looking to upgrade my current pile of junk. I have a case, hard drives, sound card, monitor, but I am running an old AGP mobo and old processer.

I need to upgrade and buy a new Motherboard, Processer, Video card, and Ram, most likely a new power supply as well.

I would like to get an 8800gts 320mb, which is currently around $270..... also debating on the 640mb for $370

the 640 would be if I manage to get a few side projects going and have the extra $100, so I'll figure on the 320mb one now.

I want to spend about $600-$700 total.

Would like to have suggestions on a motherboard/cpu/ram.
Thinking 2 gigs of pc2-6400
pairing it with a AMD x2 of some speed

and of course.... a power supply that can feed it all.

I have a 19" WS monitor I like to keep at 1440x900 btw.

I know I didn't leave much to the imagination, but I'd welcome suggestions on where to get these things *no rebates to get to the price range please* or what a good combination would be. I will be running XP *sp2*.

Thanks to any that reply.

thx for the reply.

Guess I should have also mentioned.
I do have a case, 300gb SATA HD, 150gb SATA HD, all 7200rpms, and a liteone double layer dvd burner.

so taking that off your list..... drop the price a little... is there much of a difference between the X2 4200s compared to say.... a 5600?

8800GTS - $270 - Your Figure - Leaves $430

Corsair 450w PSU - $80 - ZipZoomFly (NewEgg is too $$$ for PSUs)
GEIL 4-4-4-12 - $85 (Big Rebat too, but not counting.)

Without the case and hdds and Disc drive, you can save enough money to get the 6000+, its much better than the 4200+.

That's all around 675

and that PS would be enough to run that card and a 6000 huh?

Definately thanks for the heads up on the ram as well.

also.... lets say I do go with a 5000 or something a little less than the 6000, to put that savings towards a 760mb 8800gts.

Any thoughts as to whether the extra $100 is worth the memory jump on those cards?

I believe Crysis will block cards from doing the highest texture quality if the card has low Vram. Some games already do block you from selecting high for texture quality, GRAW 1 & 2. Also It doesn't matter how big your monitor is, high quality textures can be displayed on any sized monitor.

Interesting.....Where'd you read that?

Memory: $90 shipped if you use the $30 MIR = $60, not bad for CAS 4 DDR2
GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1682...

(Alternate PSU - minimum for this build): $70 shipped - $20 MIR if you use it.

Leadtek WinFast PX8800 GTS TDH GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...

Total with Corsair PSU shipped = $690.47 - $60 MIR's if you use them = $630.47!! NICE!!
Total with Antec PSU shipped = $680.47 - $80 MIR's if you use them = $600.47!!

If you end up going with the 320mb 8800gts than you would save ~$80 that you could use for a better CPU/mobo combo if you like.

I stated that I believe Crysis will block cards from doing the highest textures with low Vram, since I believe it will means that I did not read it anywhere. :pfff:
