Buffalo, Fujitsu, Maxtor, SimpleTech and Western Digital - all offer portable 2.5" hard drives at up to 320 GB, but some still lack features to make backup and synchronization an easy process.
How about mentioning HP? They have the pocket media drives which actually dock into the newer HP desktops.
They are a bit more expensive, but the drive enclosures look very good, offer some additional shock protection, dock right into the HP case and work like a giant floppy drive. When you take it out of the dock, a USB connector in the back lets you hook up to laptops and other non-HP desktops. And a button on the front of the HP desktop can be used to perform one-button backups to the drive.
I'm no HP fanboy, but I've seen it work and it beats both DVD and tape drives.
And what about Freecom ? They have 2.5" external hard drives with INTEGRATED usb cable, so they're far more portable than the mentioned ones. They also can withstain fall from 2m thanks to rubber-like casing, and range from 80 to 320GB in capacity. They are extremely durable compared to these. I have two of them
