I have read the excellent guide about C2D temp from CompuTronix. That is a awesome work. Here I have some questions regarding my cpu temp.

My hardware config is as follows:
Q6600 with Thermalright 120 eXtreme
P5K Deluxe Wifi with v0603 bios which was flashed from v0202.

I am running Vista x64.

Before I updated by bios to 0603, the cpu temp by SpeedFan is around 38-40 at idle. But after I flashed the bios, I was really worried about the reading of CPU temp which is at least 50C all the time. By reading CompuTronix's guide, I decided to do a collaboration of my temp display. As told by the guide, all programs closed and unnecessary processes are killed.

Ambient = Today is not hot and it is raining outside. I don't have a thermometer at home but I guess the room temp should be 22-25 for a fair estimation.
Chipset = P35
C2Q / C2D = Q6600
CPU Cooler = Thermalright 120 eXtreme
Frequency = Set to 1.6Ghz with FSB@266 and Multiplier@6
Motherboard = P5k Deluxe Wifi
Stepping = B3
Vcore = 1.12v
The side panel is removed when I try to get the offset for TCase. Everything is set and closed all program and waited for around 10 minutes and when I come back and check the temp from SpeedFan, the temp is still 50C. I just don't get it. I read from the guide that 0603 has some effect on TCase estimation with about 15C over the actual value. If the Ambient temp is 25C does that make my offset for TCase in SpeedFan to be ~-23C. I think it is quite a 'ambitious' value to set. Am I getting anything wrong in the collaboration?

The TJunction readings from the cores are at around 28-32 when idle with no offset. Here is a screenshot of log from SpeedFan. The sudden rise of the temp is caused by running Prime95 for around 2 minutes. As we can see the highest temp(dark green) is TCore, which flies up to nearly 70 when there is no offset. The period before I ran P95, is recorded while I have IM, firefox, Asus AI and speedfan opened(cpu load 15%-20%), and there is not much difference between I shut all app and wait for 10 minutes (1-2C Difference).

I am really confused about machine's actual temp now. What should I do to get it correctly collaborated? It would be much appreciated if any one can offer me any clue.

----- Added in after post ----

After I put up the post and get the MSA reading is 54 when my hottest core is 31C in SpeedFan.
By using TJ Max(100) - MSA reading (0x36 which is 54 base 10) = 46C, does this mean I should put +15C offset for TJ in SpeedFan?

tenlean, there's no need to feel confused, because you're right on track. Section 8 (Tools) Note 3 (SpeedFan) bottom of the paragraph states: CPU`s with Steppings which are Tjunction Max 100c typically require +15c Core Offsets. See Section 11.

You're conclusion is correct, so configure SpeedFan with +15c offsets for each Core (Tjunction). This applies to SpeedFan 4.32 and 4.33, however, if you don't mind going through the registration process, you can download and install SpeedFan Beta 4.34, which doesn't require Core offsets.

Regarding CPU temperature (Tcase), Asus failed to properly debug BIOS 0603, which I discovered when I flashed up from 0404, and found that my CPU temp had increased by 15c. I can't confirm whether 0202 is correct, but I know that 0404 is. I recommend that you configure SpeedFan Temp 2 with a -15c offset and repeat the Idle and Load tests. Be certain that you follow the Idle Test Setup exactly. I'll be standing by for your results.

Thanks for your reply CompuTronix.

I set the offset for TCase to -15C and TJunction to +15C. And I gave another ran of the collaboration of TCase after I adjusted the offset.

The lowest possible temperature I can get for TCase is 35C, when the offset is -15C. This is the same as 50C before setting the offset. Assuming the room temp is 25C, should I give further -10C on the TCase offset?

Any other thing I am start to think about is my TJunction. It stays at 45C constantly at idle during my collaboration of TCase. Is it too high for Q6600 with Thermalright eXtreme. I only hooked up the heat sink with a cheap coolermaster fan. Should I think about reseating the HS?

I was thinking about the process of collaborating the TCase, where we assume the min actual TCase should be Ambient+1C. And the Ambient is derived from somewhere outside the case (room temp). I feel the air around the CPU seat is a little bit higher than outside the case when I put my hand (very carefully) in the room between the chipset HS and CPU. Because the case is open and I assume the airflow path is broken. The corner space around the CPU could have no or very little airflow. Should we consider this when we collaborating the TCase? This is just my thought because I felt the air there was warm.

Once again CompuTronix thank you for having such a patience on my questions.

Nice Day...

Since your Tcase to Tjunction Delta is correct at 10c, I recommend that you leave the offset for Tcase as it presently is with -15c. If you attempt to offset it further, then Tcase to Tjunction Delta won't conform to normal parameters, which will indicate that Tcase is incorrect. With your current offsets, you're CPU and Core temperatures all appear to be correct.

I agree that you have a cooling problem, as both Tcase and Tjunction should be about 10c cooler, so it may be just as you suspect. I think if you investigate and resolve your system cooling issues, everything will fall into place.
