I have a Tuniq Tower coming but it's taking a while to get here and I don't plan to OC the Q6600 for a while anyway.  Is the stock cooler for the Q6600 pretty good?

no, I suggest you do install the tuniq but while you wait for stock cooler will do it's job @ stock cpu.

Oi... that's what I was afraid of.  I can't wait around for another week for that blasted Tuniq with this sweet computer ready to be put together so I'm gonna start with the stock one and put the Tower on next week.  Like I said I wasn't planning on overclocking yet anyway.  Thanks.

the stock should work for a while anyway

I still have the stock cooler on my Q6600, the temps are at 24 C on idle, and after an hour of 100% usage only reaches 37 C max.
I personally think this is no problem, I have even seen people OC this to over 3.4GHz on stock. Just make sure the pins are inserted correctly, you don't smudge the thermal paste, and the pressure on the CPU is sufficient.
If so the stock will be fine.

Nice temps le3wood!  I've got to think you're the exception rather than the rule, but I hope mine approaches those numbers.  My case will have very good air flow.

pros - in a really good case where you do not run things such as orthos and just do regular computer with limiting oc then stock cooler is great

cons - if you oc, properly, that is the max speed at 1.42-1.47v @3.3-3.5ghz for go q600 or 2.8-3.2ghz for a b3 then it will not work too well - yes if you have a great case and due limited multitasking it works

if you oc you need a good cooler - bottom line
if you are going to use all 4 cores at high levels regularly and even at stock speeds you need an after market cooler.

WOW 75 degrees at idle with a stock cooler on a Q6600.
Is this computer buried in the permafrost above the Arctic Circle with an air pipe tapped into the jet streem blowing through it?

If your case has excellent ventilation the stock cooler will be fine, then when you get the tower you will see your temps drop.

I dont frikkin get it :/

My Q6600 @ 2.7Ghz 1.15v with a good water setup runs 40c @ idle

WTF is going on?
Why do ppl on stock coolers get 25c?

MY Q6600 WITH A AIR COOLED HEAT PIPE AT 3.4GHZ and 1.4875v runs at 1.46v at max cpu - running 3 orthos programs and 1 stablity test by john v. runs 63-65c after 24 hours of this torture
35c at idle and 41-45c normal operation.

the amazing q6600 while running all these programs also works fine for interenet and doc's or screen shots and notes

the system runs 3.61ghz but i run turned it down since i sell these and you need some space between max and 100% dependable

bear in mind this is with a Leviathan so the rear fan is controlled by the gpu so it will run cooler in many cases

Well guys mine is idling right now at 47, 42, 45 and 45.  I think I did something wrong.  It gets into the 50s when gaming and I haven't figured out how to change the fan speed manually.

That looks LOUD Dragon.
U should put those pix on ur webz.

Those temps im getting... ~40c idle on low fan speed using the best 120mm rad with 1x140mm and 1x120mm fan with shrouds, and a lapped q6600 @2.7Ghz 1.09v load (B3) WITH that shin etsu x23 paste. P!$$e$ me off getting the best of everything and still getting shirty temps.

If anyone is still watching this thread it would be great if you could answer my question without me having to open yet another thread about it. The temp guide is down so I cant look at it.

I recently (yesterday) built a Q6600 system for a friend and he uses stock cooling and does not plan to OC. Now the board defaults his voltage to 1.325v, its an ABIT IP35-E. His temps when idle after I readjusted the heatsink idle in low to mid 40's with the occasional core dropping into the high 30's as in (one core may hit 38 - 39, while the others are 40 - 45ish.

When I load with orthos they hit all the way up into the lower 70's. While in game it hovers in the 63 - 68ish depending on what he is playing. I have seen other people run their system similar to this, but I just wasnt sure if it was safe or not even though I know the quads run warm.

It is a B3 stepping Q6600 and the case has decent, but not great airflow. I have taken off the side panels to help with that. My question is. Is this a safe and operable temp? Or is that just 2 high and we need to consider after market, because I am pretty sure that the temps will not drop from that without some alternate cooler.

He will not OC as he doesnt like doing it, so that is why I am wandering if this will be fine for the long hall as is.

Thx.

Best,

Well after stressing the CPU longer do the temps jump into the mid and high 70's? If not and they stay in the lower 70s, then it's warm, but safe. Make sure the CPU fan is running at max rpm all the time...because in those high temps is when it kicks in and helps the most.

And for the OP, yes, the stock cooler should be sufficient till your new cooler arrives.

I am pretty sure that the max temp after 4 hours or so was 75 degress, but it didnt hit that on all cores. Just 1 or 2 of them, but it went down. Once the thermal paste sets in I expect a degree or 2 to drop so I think it should be fine unless something changes correct?
