Western Digital's 320-GB Scorpio and Toshiba's MK3252GSX laptop hard drives were designed to compete directly against Samsung's offering. Our tests show how Samsung's Spinpoint M6 holds up against the newcomers.
Interesting to see that the performance of these 5400RPM 2.5" drives rivals that of my somewhat old 7200RPM 3.5" drives. Too bad companies keep equipping the drives with the power-hungry and unnecessary 300MB/s interfaces. Almost makes it seem like I should upgrade the hard drive in my aging laptop except that battery life takes priority over performance.
