Hi - I'm looking to buy some parts for making a gaming PC for my younger brother. I'm a noob and looking for advice on good components that will work well with current (and upcoming) popular pc games and for 3D animation software use (he is into World of Warcraft).

Here is what I have created based on my limited knowledge and through researching various forums:

1) ASUS Striker Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX The Ultimate Gaming Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131074
- $299

2) Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750 - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/Prod [...] 6819115029
- $199

3) EVGA 640-P2-N825-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130080
- $375

4) OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR8002GK - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227231
- $85

These add up to approx. $950...is this too much to spend on such a PC? Couple of other questions:
- Should I be looking for better graphics card (e.g. 8800 GTX)?
- Is ASUS Striker Extreme worth $299 compared to other SLI MoBo for $200?
- Any benefit in getting memory higher than DDR2 800Mhz?

Thanks in advance for your help!

For the graphic card, you should be okay with the 8800GTS.Unless you have more budget, then you can get the 8800GTX.

I think the Asus Striker Xtreme have many features in it.Have a good perfomance too.

For the RAM, I'm not sure.Well it depends on your CPU.:)

I'd say if you can afford it, then go for it. It may be not the best balance price/performance, but surely it will keep you from upgrading anytime soon, and headaches that follow. I would go for something cheaper for the time being and for this level of performance when needed, but with the money saved from this time, and by then I'd be having 2 computers instead of one, and the second one with fresher and more upgradeable hardware... but to change the main computer and all the customisations... I'd rather not think about it...
