I have 2 SATA drives in a RAID 1 (mirror). I just bought new CPU, MB, Mem, and Video card. I will be rebuilding my OS of course. I have a C and D drive. C drive is just for the OS.

My question is can I just move over both drives to the new components, then rebuild the OS on a newly formatted C drive on both HDs in a new RAID 1?

or

Do I need to move over 1 drive, rebuild the C drive and OS, then add the 2nd drive to create a new RAID 1?

If I move 1 drive over, will it cause a problem with the new components recognizing the drive by itself, since it is currently setup as a RAID?

Thank you for your help.

It's a new PC so re-install the O/S from scratch! You have two ways to do what you want to do.

1) Build the array first and then install the O/S. Nine times out of ten you will need a driver disk for the O/S to recognise the RAID controller.
2) Put in one drive and then install the O/S once everything is working introduce your RAID drives. Then introduce the second drive and build the array.

I would go with option 2.

UD.
