Hi,

I'm having strange problems with my sister PC, Shes got:

Pentium 4 3.4Ghz 478 sockst cooled since today with Thermaltake Sonic Tower with 12cm Fan.
-Idle: 34ºC Full Load:47ºC

2x512Mb DDR 400Mhz memory, Single Channel with Sonic Tower, dual channel with stock,[I can't set dual becouse cooler is to big.anyway I will order something different]

AGP 1950GT 256MB

NOX Urano 500W PSU, [new]

Gigabyte 8IPE1000-G

For example Enemy Territory:
She gets 20-25 for 10 or 15 seconds then it jumps to 125. After no more than 2 min happens again.

Any game, Bioshock, TDU, Oblivion etc... Stable fps for 2 min the 15 seconds of huge fps lag, and back to normal again.

I tried with her old Radeon 9600Pro, but doesn't help.

Could be single channel memory?

Any ideas? thanks.

don't trust that powersuply...........

could also be drivers or background programs.

clean ALL drivers (chipset, sound, video) and reinstall.
kill every background crap running (virusscanner, perhaps some spyware running?)

the pentium 4 3.4 is known to get VERY hot! check your temps because the cpu might be throttling! also check the temps of the videocard (1950gt isn't known to run cool either)

so with this setup: make sure it's dust free and the case has a good airflow.

GOOD LUCK!

She got an old power supply with only 300W, I though that that could be the problem. I bought that NOX today.

I will try to reinstall all posible drivers and run anyspyware program.

thanks.

check gpu temps with atitool. my previous x1950pro (about the same as the gt) was having some heat trouble and started throttling because of the voltage regulator wich was getting too hot. my x1900xt had the same problem...

an extra fan did the trick in both cases.

I didnt notice this before OC her Video C.
I tried OC it, ATI overdrive set Clocks to 110mhz more than default, I selected "only" 50 more than default and only in 3D applications. Started ET and had that lag, though was becouse of Video C temperature. I set it at default but now it keeps lagging.

btw, a good 300w is sometimes better than an el cheapo 500w.

imo the catalyst 7.6 are the best for the x1900 series (without the control center so just install the driver)
