I have purchased this board and while putting it together.
I noticed the CPU power block has 8 pins.
Four are blocked off, only four are exposed.
My BIG power supply only has an 8 pin 12v block.
no four pin block for 12v.

Why are the left-most pins blocked off?
I had to use a smaller powersupply to get a 4-pin connector.

Can I just remove the cover on the MB?

its the block at the bend of the heat-pipe.

Anyone know why it is capped off?

And if the cap can safely be removed?

There should be no problem connecting the 8 pin (2x4) connector. The "extra" 4 pins are required for some Hardware (ie Pentium D Extreme Processor and posiblily for SLI configurations. I have the Gigibyte 965-DQ6. Originally hade a PS with 4 Pin connector, the I swapped out my PSU and the new PSU had 8 Pin - I used it and had no Problems.

Reason it is capped is that if a 4 Pin connector is use, They do not want it plugged into the "Capped" portion as the computer would not boot leaving the person scratching their Head.

My manual leans toward using the 8 Pin if you have it, BUT if you only have the 4 Pin, And do not require the extra current then leave the cover inplace
