I built my own PC for the first time. After I put all the components together, everything worked fine when I turned it on. However, I got unknown model for the AMD 6000 processor in the BIOS, Vista Welcome screen and Device manager. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, restarted the computer, and now the BIOS says AMD 6000, the welcome screen says AMD 6000. But the Device manager still says unknown model. Please, help. I looked for the drivers on amd website, the latest one is dated September 2007, but it is not for Vista.

so long as CPU-Z reports it as the right proc and that its running at the right speed you will be fine, IMO. while it might not be recognized as what it should be all the way around, that is a flaw in vista. you did what you needed to in updating your BIOS, you will be fine.

It is 32-bit Vista. It shows Microsoft driver. I tried to update picking the option to search online. It came back with the message that I have the latest K8 processor driver. Like I said, amd website doesn't have drivers for Vista.

Check when You start the PC if the Bios recognizes it correctly. Had the same problem until updated my MB Bios.

I think miauline is on the right track; if the bios does not recognize it, then its just a simple bios flash and the problem should be solved. I forgot, I think I had to do that when I bought my new motherboard.
