Hi,
I want to buy a new 500gb hdd for a silent pc. I wonder which one of these is the best:
Western Digital Caviar GP or Hitachi P7K500?
Thank you!

If I had to guess... the WD. They are generally known for their silent hard drives, and the GP lowers its spindle rate when its not under heavy load which should further reduce noise/heat. BUT I think the GP is only available as a 1TB drive.

Edit: I guess I was wrong about the GP being only 1TB. It should still be quieter.

I would say it the Hitachi, I've brought Hitachi hard drives before and they are very silent in operation.
