I've come accross an interesting problem which I'm trying to get a solution for:
A workmate has a Sony 4Gb USB flash drive which is identified by 'My Computer' when plugged into the USB port; Properties say that the drive is full. But when you open the drive Windows brings up a pop up box to ask you to insert the disk into the drive....
When you go to try to format the drive....once again it asks you to insert the disk.
When you pull the drive out of the USB port Windows automatically identifies that the drive has been removed.
So to recap: Windows knows the drive is there when you plug in and when you remove. But to open and or format ...Windows doesn't know it is there..
Any thoughts? Is the USB flash drive stuffed? Is there a way of saving it? I don't mind formatting the thing....I just want it to work...
Does your friend use Windows Vista? If he does, did he set it to use "Ready Boost"? If so, that's what is ruining the stick. It's trying to use it as RAM.
Another thing to try is inserting the device and uninstalling it from the Device Manager. Then just Scan for Hardware changes & reinstall.
