First new build for me. I have an
Intel DP35DP Mobo
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU
OCZ Gold DDR Dual Channel
LiteOn Super AllWrite DVD (SATA)
Hitachi Deskstar 250GB HD (IDE)
Norwood Micro PSU ISO-P350S (350 watt needs to be upgraded)
evga GeForce 8600 GTS
When I try to install any OS I get a multitude of problems. XP begins the file copy process but then gives me a blue screen that says to run checkdisk. I have attempted installation on 3 different hard drives.
Vista gets about half way through decompressing the files and then the display goes nutty like the resolution settings suddenly are wrong.
imo, the first and easiest thing to do when building a new system is run memtest86+... these forums are flooded with posts which can be resolved by just running memtest.
How old is that PSU? Capacity drops with age! Run Memtest. Does Mobo POST show correct name for CPU, if not, upgrade BIOS. Try underclock, if it works, suspext PSU not upto job.
You're right. I was running memtest right after I posted and one of my RAM sticks is bad. I've gotten Vista installed but it is now crashing when doing anything even mildly cpu intensive. It definitely crashes in seconds when running orthos or prime95. Lock-ups, freezes, black screens and reboots. My memtest cd now won't boot (stuck at loading.....)
Tried installing xp and I am still getting the same stop error as before(0x0000007b).
OK. Reset CMOS by removing the battery for 10 minutes. Upon reboot, POST screen was fine. Tried to install XP and got IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. A quick search revealed that the error is most commonly caused by overheating CPU.
I removed the cpu fan and heatsink, cleaned the remains of the stock thermal pad with alcohol, and replaced said pad with arctic silver. Put my rig back together and my POST screen is all crazy again.
Booted off of the XP install disk and got a crash in the middle of installing. The screen froze and there was a solid, sustained beeping from the case. I rebooted and went into BIOS to check temps. CPU was 27 C and motherboard 56 C.

I have updated to the latest bios.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
Well, not sure if it will work but I had a similar problem trying to install XP on my new system which also had a Liteon DVD drive (DVD-RW). Turns out the required drivers aren't on the XP cd since the drive wasn't out back then. I switched it to a plain vanilla CDRom and XP installed with no problems. Might be worth a shot if you have a regular CDRom around.
Originally (with the Liteon drive) XP would copy all the system files for setup then stop with the blue screen error message.
Well I spoke to Intel yesterday and they told me it was the RAM. Not that the RAM is bad, just that Intel boards don't support OCZ RAM. So he sent me to a page that listed all of the motherboards with links to which RAM is certified for each board. I clicked on the DP35DP and guess what RAM was listed......
NONE!
So my question is, what RAM should I use? I really want 2GB of DDR2 Dual Channel.
