It's been a while since I built from scratch.
I'm primarily concerned with the SATA installation.
I've heard of people running into a few problems, with nvidia chipsets, during the f6 SATA Xp installation routine.
I'm erring on the side of caution here and just wondering what to expect if things go awry.
In the communities experience how do you fix/avoid such problems ?
Correct me here or blatantly laugh out loud - I can only use 32 bit drivers, 32 bit OS/64 bit processor, for the chipset/SATA etc.

Yeah use 32-bit drivers

Most new mobos already detect SATA drives and send this info to the windows xp installation program. At least that's what I think since my last two builds could detect SATA right off the bat without additional drivers.

If you want to be ready just in case, you can make a floppy with the sata drivers (mobo manuals usually iclude how to do this).

I don't think you'll have a problem though.

I think it has to do with the version of your XP installation CD.
His appears to be XP w/SP2 pre-installed so he should be fine.

Note: The 8600GT is not a great option. The 2600XT will smack it down for the same price. Something like the 7900GS or 1950pro will also for a slightly higher price.

Thanks people.
New builds always cause me a bit of anxiety. Brrrrrrrr.
Yeah, Xp is slipstreamed with SP2 - Less hassle.
I'll check out the 2600XT - Thanks for the heads up.
I'm getting all this kit from Ebuyer.co.uk - Prices seem pretty good.
