Hey all

So I'm finally getting ready to purchase all the parts for my new rig but would like a second check to make sure that all the components I'm getting will work together. I'm not planning to OC the CPU so I should be fine with the stock cooler correct? I also plan on taking the Vista plunge for dx10. I'm trying to keep the build at 1k after rebates so I can't afford to make many changes but if something is glaring or needs switching please let me know.

The build.

Centurion 534 has a better airflow than 5, certainly a better choice.

Stay away from that PSU, you can get much higher quality unit for the same price. Corsair 520HX would be perfect, exceptional unit.

If you plan on playing the upcoming games without any major issues at the highest settings, spend some extra $ and get the basic 640MB version of 8800 GTS, well worth the investment.

Rest looks good,
Good luck.

Thank you all for the advice. I would love to get the 640MB 8800... but I just can't afford it with my budget as it is and it would be really hard to free up $100 from the rest of the build.

I did some checking on NewEgg for PSUs and came up with this list that all sound better than the Antec. If you have any advice or opinions on them please let me know. As always your superior technical knowledge is deeply appreciated.

PSUs:

Rosewill RP550-2 550W ~ $60

XION Supernova 600W ~ $70

OCZ OCZ GameXStream 600W ~ $100

I just had to fix a friends laptop because the optiarc was flakey, had to mess around in the registry, and it was always still messed up. Look up "upperfilter" if you think I am kidding.

there is one way to free up $100, get an E2140 or 60 and overclock the tits off it. My friend's one is sitting at 3.0ghz giving about the same performance as that E6750, on stock cooler with no voltage mods.

I agree get the Centurion 534 case the hard drive case also stick out the side so you can fit your 8800gts really easy. Or down the road you can upgrade the gpu and keep the case.

The OCZ PSU you linked is a good one (from Tier-2), but the other two (Rosewill and Xion) are on Tier-5 ("Do not buy") of this list:
http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiered+PSU+Listings?t=anon

The Antec Neo HE is also Tier-2, so should also be a good one; some other Antecs, as Dior mentioned, have not been as good.

If, as RoyalCrown suggests, you choose a different DVD writer, a Retail package will cost maybe $7 more than OEM, but will include all the software needed (including a decoder).

Otherwise, it is a very nice looking build.

Thanks so much to everyone who has posted. I've made some corrections to the build to avoid Vista errors and PSU problems (thanks RoyalCrown and jtt283).

New PSU: OCZ GameXStream 600W
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817341001

New 2nd DVD/CD: LITE-ON DVD/CD 16x/48x
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827106087

My final build will come darn close to 1k after rebates. I also checked Toms Hardware charts and my rig should preform really well for my budget. Thanks again everyone!

The Sony/NEC. Get rid of it. The Lite-On burner will do everything you need, including playing CD and DVD and writing CD/DVD. Even if you copy DVDs you can still do it only with one burner, it's actually better that way.

Nice build, no other objections here :D
