Removing old os after updating to a newer one

Hello, Recently I updated my XP o.s. to Vista Ultimate. I found a folder on C: (Old) and was told I could just delete it. Now when I reboot my PC I have to go through a bunch of procedures. Can I fix this problem?

Without knowing what you mean by "a bunch of procedures", it's hard to offer a solution.

start in safe mode, start normally...

This started after I removed a folder on C drive called "window.old"

But what exactly is happening - and what are the Procedures you are having to go through (ie. what error messages are showing up and how are you getting past them ?)
