CPU: Q6600 G0 based... ( not sure where i can find them ) newegg?? also i would like to oc to 3.0GHz
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Ultra 120 - extreme
CPU Cooler Fan: Scythe S-Flex SFF21E

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA - P35 DS3L or DS3R (not sure which one)

Ram:
Corsair XMS2 2Gb (2*1GB) DDR2 800 (pc2 6400) (is it gd for overclocking??)

GPU: Geforce 8800GTS 320mb (not sure which brand tho... may be EVGA)
GPU Cooler: Thermalright HR-03 Plus
GPU Cooler Fan: Scythe S-Flex SFF21E

Hard Disk:
Seagate 7200.10 500Gb

DVD burner: Some LG sata burner

Case: Antec P182

Q6600 is a good choice. I've had mine for a whole 3 days now. :)

ClubIt has the Q6600 G0.

I used the DS3R mobo. It has more SATA connections and will handle 1066 MHz Ram. Board has been great so far.

I have the 80 Gb and 250 Gb model of that HDD. Very quiet. I don't hear them at all.

I have not done any overclocking yet and I'm only using a much cheaper 8500 GPU so I'll let others tackle those topics.

Looks like you're off to a good start. Good luck.

Good choices on the Proc, PSU, and GPU (def go eVGA)

Assuming it's the one I'm looking at one Egg, it's either the 5 or 4 Lat one...with purple heatsink.correct?

Those have Promo ICs (very cheap memory chips)...unlike the Dominators, which have Micron D9s - overclocking should be better on the doms......but it's more than twice the price, so I suggest you just go with Crucial ballistix (D9)

If you want to run games on max settings then the 320 won't cut it for very long - there are games out already that need 512mb or greater to run with Textures set to High, and texture settings make a huge difference to visual quality.

You should really try to reach for a 2900XT or 8800GTX.

All the above suggestion are really good. I would also tell you that you don't need the extra GPU cooler, unless you plan to overclock the card a lot.

he said he wants to keep it quiet... the stock cooler on the 8800's is a whiny little SOB, I'm guessing that's the main reason for the aftermarket cooler

You don't have to worry about OCing 800 mhz memory if you're going to OC to 3.0Ghz. Set a FSB of 333 and a multiplier of 9 and you'll get 3.0Ghz and your ram will be slightly underclocked.

I bought the Q6600 from Newegg last week and it has the G0 stepping.

I also have the DS3R and it is working like a dream. Great purchase.

I also bought the 8800GTS 320MB, I personally feel it will be a great card for a while. And if you regret your decision of buying it, get the eVGA and use the 90 day step-up program. The 8800GTX is just too much money for a casual gamer, if anything I would say got for the 640MB version if you're concerned. I wasn't and am very happy with the 8800GTS 320MB.

If he use the Gigabyte he will actually have to mess with the divider or when he overclocks the CPU his ram will be clocked to 2000. At least that's the way it is with the DQ6.

Compare them and decide for yourself, they are listed side by side here GA-P35-DS3L VS. P35-DS3R.

It's not mandatory but it is wise to choose RAM that is on the compatible RAM PDF for the respective board.

motherboard_memory_ga-p35-ds3l_1.0.pdf

motherboard_memory_ga-p35-ds3r.pdf

I'm not sure about those Corsair sticks. I know this Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400 is on the list. I also have three DQ6 boards running it @1666Mhz effective.

The model of the ram for the 2G kit is "BL2KIT12864AA804" and the model on the PDF for 1G stick is "BL12864AA804". That makes it a little confusing but it is the same RAM.
