Hi, i just bought a new seagate 7200.11, and installed it. Hooked it up to my A8n sli deluxe, and windows found it, and installed it (or so i thought!)

unfortunately,, the drive does not show up on my desktop.  It is, however, showing up in the device manager.

Does anybody have any idea what on earth, I am doing wrong?

I have a similar issue after slipstreaming XP with Sata drivers.  Hopefully there's a solution out there.  If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

Right click on "My Computer" click on "Manage" -> "Disk Management". Right click the drive and initialize it. Then partition and format.

Oh right, that should do it.  Somehow the word "NEW" past by me.  Any ideas what to do if the HD has data on it?

First off, I feel kind of bad robbing omaha of his post.  So yeah, I have a post <HD recognized but "unallocated"> a couple posts below omaha's post.

Omaha's question was answered. If you would feel better you can start a new thread.

You installed the SATA slipstreamed XP onto this drive, or is this a second drive?

It is here:    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] nallocated

and no, I didn't slipstreamed into that HD.  It is a separate one.
