CPU & MOBO recommendation

I have got Old CPU AND MOBO that is acting sluggish while playing BF2 i have got a good video card that runs BF2 very very well at HIGH FPS i got good amount of DDR 2 RAM just the CPU is not upto it and the mobo is pretty old 2.
I dont intend to buy quad core and 8800 gtx ultra with 1000wt PSU
I will be saveing this money for the Nvidia geforce 9 series,
What i am looking for is a good cpu and mobo that can run this card,
XFX GeForce 7950 GT 512MB GDDR 3 AGP 8X

What is the rest of your specs? We can't help you if we don't know what are all of the other parts, including the PSU make and model. I personally wouldn't buy a new mobo with AGP on it, but there are options that can allow you to use your AGP card and then upgrade to PCI-e later. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

It's an open box, but not sure if there are any available new right now. Will need to check for that. The mobo there can handle DDR and DDR2 not at the same time though. This might be something you might want to consider.
What is your budget for this task?

I agree with lunyone. Buying AGP now for a primary rig would be a waste.
His suggested mobo would work for you, although VIA anything is on my personal "never buy" list (past performance issues).
If you can, grit your teeth until you're ready to build a new rig, then turn this one into a backup, a server, or pass it on, perhaps to a family member.
