I noticed that my video card, an nVidia 7600, has both a DVI port and a VGA port.

Could I connect a monitor up to each and have a dual monitor system?

Is there any special software required?

yes you can do that! no additional software needed.

Yes you can hook up 2 monitors. The nVidia drivers that came with your card even has a built-in multi-monitor setup that sets the basic options on DualView. Plug them both in and just right-click on the desktop and pick properties > settings > advanced to setup your dual-monitor setup - and remember that with nVidia cards your 2 monitors can house different backgrounds.
