I just got a gigabyte p35-ds3r mobo. My old mobo has a matched pair of pc5400 Corsair XMS2 (2gb)
memory modules. I saw a rebate offer on single sticks (to make them very cheap). I am thinking
to go to 4gb of system memory firstly in XP and later to vista or whatever it evolves to. Any
caveates or opinions ? :heink:

the 32bit versions of XP and Vista will not be able to recognize all 4gb of the memory. it is a limitation of the OS. It's been covered by many of the threads in the forum. If you put in 4gb windows will most likely recognize only 3.0GB-3.2GB.

If you upgrade to vista 64bit then it would be able to recognize and address all 4GB of memory.

Thank-you, however,I had my buddies suggest that matched pairs of better grade memory would function as equals with additions of single
sticks of 1 gb at a time. Others state that quality control is an issue and that the additions could affect performance.
