new system, installing OS problem/question

i just put together a new system, loaded the vista cd, trying to install on one of the drives but it says its not a comatable drive for instalation.. its also unallocated? im new to this btw.

did i forget something like formatting the drives, something with the bios before I would install vista?

Post the specs.

FYI, you don't need to format/partition prior to xp/vista/2k install. The install includes a utility that will partition & format the drive AFTER you specify the location.

Maybe you need to set up bios to boot from: CD/DVD, FLOPPY & last HARDDISK.
