I got a problem of not able to detect my usb 250 GB Maxtor OneTouch 4 mini external drive. I have done as what suggested by some experts. The symptoms are as follow:
1) Beeping sound and flashing light when connected. Not detected. Already tried all the ports
2) When my usb modem is unplugged leaving all other usb ports unused, i am able to detect intermittently but resulted "delayed write failure" after sometime.
My computer specs are as follow:
AMD Athlon 2600
Asus A7V600 motherboard (with usb 2.0)
Win XP SP2 (updated last year)
I have tried connecting using a self powered usb 2.0 hub and updated my VIA usb driver to 2.57
Is there any suggestion? The drive is working perfectly on other pc.
What are the chances that it might work if i buy a pci usb card? If my motherboard usb is problematic, does it mean anything asociated to usb protocol will not work even if i put pci usb card?
Really need you help. Im completely burnt out. Thanks
I had a very similar problem. The Maxtor website was no help. I finally talked to tech support and which helped to figure out the problem.
The Maxtor Mini 4 is an energy hog. My Mini would beep and then shut down. What I did not know is that on some desktop/tower computers the USB outlets in the front have less power than the ones in the back. The ones in the back are usually connected directly to the mother board and have more power. I got a USB extension cable and it fixed my problem.
I also learned that some laptops do not have enough power to their USP ports for the Maxtor Mini. Also, my Maxtor mini does not like to share a port with anything else, such as an unpowered USB hub with some flash drives. It does seem to work fine with a powered desktop USB hub from Belkin.
