Some of Gigabyte's newer boards feature their Ultra Durable 2 technology, which they claim keeps their motherboards much cooler and mre efficient. I intend to keep this system for 4-5 years, so this all sounds great to me. The question is, how exaggerated are these claims? Words like MOSFET, chokes, and ESR are not really in my vocabulary, and I can't find any discussion of these improvements on the forums or in any THG articles. Does anyone have some insight into this? Unfortunately it's not featured on Gigabyte's baseline P35 motherboard, so I would have to spend another $20 to get an "Ultra Durable 2" board, which is what I'm currently debating.

I don't think the extra $20 is worth it unless you plan extreme overclocking or want some of the other features such as RAID or more SATA ports.

I would think that in a general rule, the cooler the components, the more durable they would be.

This is important if you do not plan to upgrade in 4-5 years. $20 more is not a lot of money especially in your case.
