Multiple Video Cards 8800GTS and 7900GT

I have a two-part question. First, can you run a 7900GT in a PCI-E 8x slot? Then, is it worth it to run 8800GTS 640 MB in SLI mode for a multi-monitor setup, with the 8800s supporting the main monitor and the 7900 supporting the other 2 monitors.

Thanks for help in advance.

You cannot run a 7900 and an 8800GTS in SLI, they must be two of the same graphics card. I think there would be an option to run them unlinked but then you would have to use one or the other for gaming.

I think you miss-understood. He wants (2) 8800GTS' to run his main monitor and a 7900GT to run two other monitors. He obviously has a mobo with 3 PCI-e slots. Yes I believe it is possible, just make sure you have a PSU that can handle all 3 cards.

Yes, sorry about that, 2x8800GTS in SLI mode in PCI-E 16x slots with a 7900GT in a PCI-E 8x slot that is in between the cards. It'll be on a Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 mobo.

I'm running a OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply - Retail, I think.

Good enough? Or do I need more powaaa!

I think you are ok as long as you don't run a whole lot more on it. What is the rest of your system?

if the graphics cards will work is unknown to me, but if they do that powersupply is going to cut it for about a whole three thousandsth of a second, then your system will go kapowee. you will need around 800-1000 W PS for all those cards

I ran a calculator and it came up to around 525 to 550. But if you don't recommend it, I won't do it.

that could be cutting it a little close. If you want to upgrade the unit to be safe, you can stick with OCZ and buy the GameXStream 700w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341002 104.99 after MIR. Not a bad deal at all.

Interior Gateway Protocol? Do you mean AGP? If that is the case, you'll have one AGP slot and you'll need PCI cards to supplement however many monitors you want.
